FOLEYVISION

"Matching the comic gold of Saunders and Lumley is a high bar to clear but Scott Elstermann has managed it in his latest contemporary dance work Foleyvision."

"Elstermann has done it again. Foleyvision is a glorious tribute to both Ab Fab and the world of foley, perfect for contemporary dance-lovers or those dipping their toes in the art form."

"The three main performers were simply mesmerising as they executed Elstermann’s signature moves – and nods to other postmodern greats along the way - with incredible control."

"Foleyvision is a zany yet meticulously crafted production that layer by layer melds dance, foley, television, and parody, all infused with a generous dose of camp."

"The choreography is performed with precision and technical excellence."

" A riotous display of an intricately designed, carefully planned, and expertly executed self-contained universe. The caricatures are spot on!"

"The dancers capture the distinctive movements of foley artists, amplified to the nth degree, which is simply a joy to watch. It’s fantastic; it’s fabulous."

"The first act's humour is subtle but pay attention to movement details and you'll be rewarded later."

"Celery-snapping, door slamming, finger-licking; the dancers’ wide-eyed concentration and cartoon-like facial expressions and gestures delighted the audience."

"The first ‘act’ is highly mesmerising. We can see that our trio of dancers move beautifully and have an excellent synchronicity and rapport."

"It was a joy to watch them maintain their characters in these high-volume scenes of sparkle and fun."

"Classic foley touches like snapping celery to create a grisly bone-breaking sound were delivered perfectly with a deadpan edge."

"A dance work that embraced physical comedy in surprising ways was both delightfully entertaining and conceptually rigorous."

"Foleyvision’s strength lay in its capacity to go beyond this level of delightful entertainment, because it also revealed certain ambiguities that lie underneath."

"A fascinating and highly watchable piece, Foleyvision is a very different and engaging production."

"The dancers have an impressive range as they seamlessly transitioned from channelling postmodern minimalism to embodying their larger-than-life Ab Fab characters."

"Foleyvision’s witty vignettes were layered with subtle signposts that pointed viewers to places of deeper reflection and spaces where we could ponder our existence in the wider world."

"Elstermann has crafted a vibrant example of how devised work can captivate audiences with its creativity, humour, and a delightful blend of nostalgia and innovation."

"A shoutout must go to the dancers, who so smoothly shift between the vastly different physical and expressive demands, now crisp and serene, now animated by focus, now vivaciously excessive."

"Timing is everything in life, but especially in comedy, and Elstermann and his team of collaborators show us exactly how it’s done."

"The ideas feel fresh and offer something truly unique."

"The cleverly hidden Easter eggs of the first act reveal Elstermann’s ability to zero in on both movement and design details and amplify them to glorious comedic effect."

"Foleyvision is a wonderfully unique concept that slices through genre and form, makes us take a new look at the familiar, and gives us plenty to laugh about as we watch with awe."

FOLEYVISION

Cheers sweetie! Foleyvision is a hilariously inventive mix of contemporary dance and foley inspired by the BBC sitcom ‘Absolutely Fabulous’. A live studio audience is invited behind the scenes of a simulated recording to discover how post-production sound techniques are used to create television magic. Glasses clink, footsteps stomp and clothes rustle as the invisible workings of foley are made visible – all with fabulous shoes of course darling!

Length: 50 minutes
